Potential of Open Source Software for Firms
We have conducted a cross-sectional study among Swiss CIOs and a round-table discussion with leading information technology vendors. Results of the first study indicate the significance of OSS for the swiss economy. Our study reveals palpable experiences that CIOs have with the use of OSS in business environments and how they plan with OSS for the year 2004 and later. We cross-checked these results with strategies of leading vendors active in Switzerland. It was primary to this discussion which demands are recognised by vendors and how they adapt their product and service portfolio. Finally, scenarios are discussed some current trends.
